Our History

The Ananda Foundation was founded in 1993 by Adeline Lipton at the age of eighty-seven. She travelled extensively throughout the world during her lifetime and shared a deep concern and compassion for the welfare of the poor.

The first project supported by Ananda consisted of a mobile clinic in rural Karnataka (India) that continues to service the basic health needs of villagers that do not have access to medical services.

Additional projects included empowerment for the physically challenged in the slums of Chennai and support of orphans in Gujarat & Orissa. The Ananda Foundation is managed by Adeline's daughter and granddaughter who serve as Project Director and Executive Director respectively.

Our most ambitious grant has been awarded to the NGO H.E.A.R.T.S Samaj Unnayan Sangstha of Bangladesh. Project "Adeline's Gift" provides for the basic needs of orphans from the villages of Gopalgonj. We hope to expand to eighty children over the next two years.

We lost Adeline in 2000, however, her legacy remains. Her wishes will be carried out through the projects supported by Ananda and her spirit
lives on through the lives that are given hope.
