Nonformal Education Basics

The nonformal education strategy supports the philosophy that individuals and communities everywhere are capable of defining and controlling their destinies if given the know-how and the opportunity. It focuses on empowering an individual and often includes experiential learning from others in a group through discussions and demonstrations faciliated by a project manager or field worker.

During a class students often teach each other by participating in a dialogue of shared life experiences. This type of educational strategy is often used as a tool to promote sustainable development of community and is common way of learning for grassroots and rurual communities.
