Women's Microcredit Project for the Empowerment of Women

This project focuses on gender equity in development and will provide 600 women in Patuakhalli with an opportunity to operate small enterprises through microcredit loans.

Some of the businesses women will operate:

  • Cow Milching
  • Cow Fattening
  • Duck & Poultry
  • Tailoring
  • Goat Rearing
  • Homestead Gardening
  • Small Trade
  • Mat Making
  • Bamboo & Jute Handicraft Paper Bag Making
  • Fish Net Making

Based on a conceptual framework and philosophy of the Grameen Bank, it has been proven that providing the poor credit is the best way to help them out of poverty with sustainable results. Through income generating activities undertaken by these landless women other determinants of their well-being will increase. As a result of empowerment and an opportunity to contribute to the family income and decision-making process other facets of life will improve for these women. Among them are improvements in health, social relations and standing in their community, and securing a future for their children. It is anticipated that after the initial grant period, this project will be self-sustaining based on interest collected and projected loan recovery rates. Grant duration: 3 years. Grant Award: $ 15,223.60.
